Katy is an enthusiastic communications professional on a mission to bridge arts and culture with today’s audiences. A Chicagoland native, Katy is experienced in working with artists and organizations across a range of disciplines, and is driven by her passion for connecting cultural stories to larger conversations taking place in the world.
Prior to joining The Silverman Group, Katy served as the Media Relations Manager at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago. During her time at the MCA, Katy developed media plans and messaging that raised the profile of the museum’s work across contexts, from programming and community engagement to the museum’s store and restaurant, with a focus the museum’s MCA Stage performances. Providing PR strategy as well as marketing and social media support for Takashi Murakami: The Octopus Eats Its Own Leg and Virgil Abloh: “Figures of Speech,” Katy was a key player on the communications team responsible for two of the highest-attended exhibitions in MCA history.
Katy has a deep understanding of Chicago’s diverse cultural landscape and audiences with past roles at The Art Institute of Chicago, Steppenwolf Theater, and the satire news publication The Onion. Katy received her BA in Art History and Communications at McGill University in Montreal and is currently completing her MA in Art History and Critical Curatorial Studies at the University of British Columbia. In high school, Katy was the founder and president of the New Trier Figure Skating Club, which she continues to work with as a choreographer. She looks forward to working with you!
